A unique welcome event, a first encounter connecting the "new" with the "known," opened a new chapter in the university life of the Class of 2026 "Little Night Herons." From September 4 to 6, the welcome event themed "First Encounter with the Library, A Literary Welcome Awaiting You" unfolded successively on both campuses.

　　A comprehensive library guide manual, covering collection resources, electronic databases, research lectures, seat reservations, and study room usage……"Unlocking at a Glance" helped the "Little Night Herons" gain a full understanding of the library's "treasures" right from the start of their enrollment. Librarians guided new students step by step through the registration and quiz process, distributing a new student guide Q&A level-up card that addressed high-frequency questions such as "How do I borrow books?", "How do I choose a seat?", and "How do I renew books?" With borrowing privileges and usage guides in hand, the "Little Night Herons" would henceforth "never get lost in the library."

　　The book blind box borrowing activity became the most popular interactive session of the event. The blind boxes featured a curated selection of books in fields such as medical humanities, popular science, and research tools. New students chose books based on clues, embarking on romantic encounters with unexpected great reads. This "guess the book" approach made borrowing feel as exciting as unwrapping a gift—and the upcoming university years, much like a book yet to be opened, hold something to look forward to on every page. A book recommendation and purchase zone was also set up at the event. The books you want to read—the Southern Medical University Library will add them to your "shopping cart" on your behalf—this session allowed new students to participate in the library's collection development from their very first day on campus.

　　From September 5 to 6, the Library Volunteer Service Association held a fun street-stall welcome event at the Shunde Campus. In addition, a series of activities including themed book exhibitions, top-journal achievement displays, and an online welcome column were also launched simultaneously—the two campuses respectively hosted the "New Starting Point, New Experiences" medical humanities themed book exhibition and the "Research Everything Shop" themed book exhibition. The ground floor of the main campus displayed outstanding research achievements published by the university in seven top journals over the past decade, while the library's WeChat official account simultaneously launched a new student column. From reading guidance to academic inspiration, and from offline experiences to online empowerment, the library accompanied new students in completing their "first lesson" of library entry through diverse formats.
